With Mother’s Day just around the corner, it’s afternoon tea season in London, and the hotels and restaurants specialising in this quintessentially English treat have been refreshing their menus.

Here are five centrally located teas, courtesy of the Londonist.
Inspired by the adventures of Phileas Fogg, – hot air balloon decorations set the theme – this tea has a focus on the Middle East and Asia. You’ll find pitta bread and hummus, onion bhaji and a miso and sweet potato tapioca balls, alongside the usual scones with jams and clotted cream. Other treats include sesame choux with mandarin and pandan cake with a mango confit.
This Marylebone hotel has teamed up with a local hair salon to offer a special treatment and blow dry before tea. On the menu are finger sandwiches, Valrhona dark chocolate mousse with hazelnut dacquoise and a raspberry macaroon.
Lead your mum in a lindy hop or jive to the sound of the 1940s-themed Lily Belles in the crystal ballroom of this Westminster hotel. The experience includes a traditional tea with unlimited fizz.
Iced biscuit specialists Biscuiteers are running teas in their Belgravia and Notting Hill cafes. Dine on finger sandwiches, scones and patisserie treats with the option to add a biscuit icing masterclass.
Japanese fusion tea featuring brioche with seared tuna, matcha and pistachio cake and yuzu crème brûlée – paired with appropriate teas or sake pairing. Live koto music – the national string instrument of Japan – accompanies your tea.
