Where to see London cherry blossom this spring

Walking London’s streets when they are resplendent in pink cherry blossoms – or sakura as they’re called in Japan – is one big sign that spring has arrived. April is usually peak season for London’s blossoms to burst into life. But don’t hang around, some trees flower as early as March and, depending on species, may only be around for a few days.

With your phone at the ready, check out these top blossom-spotting locations to give your Instagram feed a rosy glow.

Holland Park

Holland Park’s Kyoto Gardens are a little bit of Japan here in London. Check out the blossoms which frame the koi carp pond with it’s a waterfall and a little bridge for an unmissable spectacle.

Kensington Gardens

Hyde Park isn’t great for blossoms so head to next-door Kensington Gardens for a good crop. You’ll find a stunning display at the Lancaster Gate entrance with more by the Albert Memorial.

Regent’s Park

Aim for the Chester Road entrance to spot a spectacular avenue of Sunset Boulevard-variety blossoms. There are more at Avenue Gardens, close to the Broad Walk.

St James’ Park

There might not be as many blossom trees in St James’, but this central option has some good photo opportunities around the lake by Buckingham Palace gate.

Other London locations worth checking out include Greenwich Park – described as the closest to the Japan blossom experience – and Kew Gardens with its stunning cherry walk behind the Palm House. Or visit St Paul’s where the trees beautifully frame the cathedral’s iconic dome.

Great streets to spot the blossoms include Courtfield Gardens and Blithfield Street, Kensington and Redcliffe Road in Chelsea.
