Tickets for the West End’s theatre giveaway, Kids Week are on sale now. The annual promotion offers free theatre tickets for selected shows to children aged 17 and under when accompanied by an adult paying full price. In addition to the free ticket, up to two more children can join the party for half price.

Though called Kids Week, the offer actually runs throughout the month of August. The scheme, from the Society of London Theatres, is about attracting audiences during the summer period, while introducing young people to the breadth of West End shows in a way that’s more affordable for parents.
Special events and activities accompany certain productions – look out for the blue stars on the show’s calendar page.
There’s a huge range of shows to choose from with new ones being added. For little ones, there’s Tales from Acorn Wood and The Smeds and the Smoos – both based on Juila Donaldson books or The Tiger who came to Tea. For older children choices include Mrs Doubtfire, based on the classic film, or SpongeBob the Musical.
With the promotion including teenagers, there are plenty of options for more grown-up tastes. Highlights include the National Theatre’s production of Arther Miller’s The Crucible, the nail biting 2:22 a Ghost Story or Dickens spoof Bleak Expectations with its range of celebrity narrators. There are shows for all ages too, from Oklahoma to Wicked and Matthew Bourne’s ballet Romeo & Juliet.
If you’re looking to bag tickets, be warned – the website can get busy. The advice is be prepared to queue and have your payment methods to hand. It’s also an idea to be flexible about your shows and dates – so check out the website in advance and pull tougher your shortlist.
